LA CROSSE, Wis. – Kelly Landry had a pair of assists for the Indiana University Northwest women's soccer team, but Viterbo held on for the 3-2 victory Saturday afternoon in CCAC action on the Mississippi River waterfront.
Early on
Zoey Wells and Landry sent a pair of shots toward the net for the RedHawks (3-6-4, 2-6-0), but V-Hawks goalie Molly Ripley made the saves. However, in the sixth minute Vitero hit the back of the net to break the tie.
Hayley Hylek and
Olivia Hansen, meanwhile, tried to even the contest up, but their shots missed the target. In the 17
th minute, the V-Hawks (5-2-5, 3-1-2) added their second goal of the day, but minutes later
Brynn Nylin took a pass from Landry to make it 2-1. However, right before intermission, Viterbo tallied its third goal for a 3-1 halftime score.
Five minutes into the second period, IUN found paydirt when
Gianna Witte scored on a pass from Landry. In the 70
th minute
Kayla Ziel was looking for the equalizer, but her shot was stopped just before it crossed the line.
Moments before the 90
th minute, Kiel had another shot opportunity for the RedHawks, but her shot was again stopped before going into the back of the net.
Wednesday, IUN travels to Great Lakes Christian for a 2 p.m. kickoff in Lansing, Mich.
