DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Indiana University Northwest volleyball team was led by
Erica Packwood, who had her sixth triple-double of the season, but Saint Ambrose was a winner in four-sets (19-25, 21-25, 25-17, 18-25) Thursday night in conference action.
The RedHawks (6-18, 4-5) had a two-score lead midway through the opening set after a pair of SAU unforced errors. The Bees (12-11, 6-4), however, would score six of the next eight points to grab a lead they wouldn't lose.
Chloe Roberts hammered down one of her seven kills on the night late in the opener to bring IUN within two at 21-19. The RedHawks though would not draw any closer over the final four points.
After IUN fell in the second set, it bounced back in the third after building a lead of six late following a
Karly Jevert kill. The RedHawks finished out the third stanza with one of Packwood's team-best four aces.
Looking to force a fifth set, IUN was down 6-1 early, but it tied the frame up at six when Jevert had back-to-back to aces. The aces forced SAU to call a timeout, but the Bees regained the momentum. However, RedHawks did get back to within one (13-12) after a Roberts and Jevert block and one of
Jaelyn Donald's kills.
The RedHawks though could take the lead again and would not draw closer than two after a Packwood block.
IUN returns to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when the RedHawks welcomes Grace Christian in for Senior Day.
