CROWN POINT, Ind. – In a constant rainfall, the Indiana University Northwest women's soccer team couldn't gain its footing in a 2-0 loss to CCAC rival Saint Francis Wednesday evening at the Crown Point SportsPlex.
The RedHawks and Saints were knotted at zero for 44 minutes of the first half as
Isabel Escalera made four saves. However, in the final minute of the opening period, Escalera got a hand on the ball, but rolled past the outstretched goalie.
IUN's offense, meanwhile, got a pair of shots off, but
Kelly Shaffer's opportunity went to the right and
Brynn Nylin's was stopped by the USF's keeper.
Twenty-four seconds in the second half,
Gianna Witte looked to get the RedHawks on the board, but her shot was stoned.
Escalera would make two more saves in the final 45 minutes, but in the 64
th minute USF sent a shot to lower left 90 to make it 2-0. The RedHawks could not get another look at the net as the rain began to fall harder.
IUN returns to action Saturday when it travels to Viterbo for an 11 a.m. kickoff in the La Crosse, Wis.
