University Park, Ill. - IU Northwest women's volleyball jumped out to a two sets to none lead on Tuesday in when they visited Governors State before the Jaguars would fight back to tie the match before eventually be outlasted by the RedHawks in a five set marathon (23-25) (23-25) (25-23) (25-23) (9-15).
Each of the first four sets were tight contested 25-23 before the RedHawks would pull away to win their final deciding set 15-9. The RedHawks attack was led by sophomore outside hitter
Erica Packwood who paced IUN with 15 kills.
Briah Strezo and
Emileishka De Jesus each added 12 kills each. RedHawks setters
Stephanie Teer and
Abigail McCampbell set the RedHawks offense up nicely all night combining for 47 assists.
The RedHawks defense was also stellar as middle blocker
Mary Markusic blocked 5 Jaguar attacks while Packwood added 4 blocks of her own. De Jesus was also stingy on defense leading IUN with 29 digs and while libero
Chloe Roberts added 22 assists. Strezo chipped in with 17 digs.
The win was the first conference victory for IUN who evened their CCAC record at 1-1 and improved to 6-3 overall for the season.
Next Up: The RedHawks will travel to Bourbonnais, Ill. this Thursday to take on the Olivet Nazarene Tigers in another key CCAC matchup.
