Women's Basketball Comes up Short in Home Regular Season Finale vs IU South Bend Wednesday

GARY, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team came up just short as the RedHawks dropped a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Indiana South Bend Wednesday.

GAME RECAP
IUSB led 4-1 in the early going then Tiara Jackson made back-to-back layups to grab a 5-4 lead. The Titans went on a 10-1 run the next two minutes to pull ahead 14-6. 

Michaela Schmidt responded with a basket then IUSB knocked down a pair at the line to go up 16-8. Katelyn Halfacre nailed a three-pointer to cut it back down to five (16-11). 

Jackson closed out the first quarter with a layup as the Titans led 19-15 at the end of the quarter. 

IUSB started the second quarter with five straight points to go up 24-15. Lauren Smolen bounced back and made a bucket to keep it close.

The Titans went ahead 29-21 with 4:11 left in the first half. IU Northwest closed out the half scoring the last eight points with six of them coming from Jackson

Schmidt started the second half with a layup. Both teams traded baskets most of the third quarter. 

Madison Wirey made a layup for IU Northwest to make it 35-34. IU South Bend closed out the third  quarterwith the last five points to go ahead 39-35. 

IU South Bend started the fourth quarter on an 6-2 advantage to go up 45-37 with 8:11 to play. The RedHawks rallied for seven points in a row after baskets by Smolen, Karli Miller and Meghan Long made it 45-44 in favor of the Titans with 5:33 in the game.

The Titans responded with a three-point play to go back up by four. Jackson kept hitting clutch layups to keep the RedHawks in the game.

Long knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 55-54 IUSB with 20 seconds left. However, IUSB closed out the game by scoring the last four points of the contest, all on free throws as the Titans won 59-54.

UP NEXT
IU Northwest will be back in action Saturday, February 19 as the RedHawks wrap up the regular season on the road against (RV) St. Francis (Ill.) scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
