Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

RedHawks Defeat Saints in Double Overtime Thriller

Joliet, Ill. – IU Northwest Men's Basketball has already had their fair share of exciting finishes early the season and Saturday was no exception as they outlasted the Saint Francis Saints  on the road in double overtime 94-91. This has already been the RedHawks third multi-overtime game this season.

In a back-and-forth affair in the first half the Saints were able to take a four-point lead to the locker room. IU Northwest battled back behind the strength Lamarius Lillard game high 27 points to tie the game at the end of regulation. The Saints led by seven with less than four minutes to play, however the RedHwks would continue to fight.

A pair of buckets by Malik Miller and field goals by Jared Johnson and Isaac Stanback would trim the Saints lead to just two with a half minute to play. Johnson's jumper with 23 seconds remaining would tie the game and the RedHawks defense would hold to push the game to overtime.

The first overtime would be back-and-forth and see both teams with an opportunity to take the lead in the final minute and neither was able to capitalize on the opportunity as the game remained tied at 83 to force a second overtime.

Lillard and Miller would score the first two field goals of the second overtime and the RedHawks would never relinquish the lead and hang on to improve to 3-1 in CCAC play.

Lillard led all scorers with a game high 26 points and 10 rebounds. Stanback posted another great effort with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Johnson added 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Miller was also in double figures with 11 points.

With the win the RedHawks improved to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in CCAC play. They will take a break from CCAC play for a non-conference matchup with the Andrews Cardinals on Tuesday in Berrien Springs, Mich. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
