Second Half Surge Pushes Indiana Tech Past RedHawks
Â
Gary, Ind. – IU Northwest men's basketball welcomed the No. 25 team in the country in Indiana Tech to the Savannah Center on Saturday afternoon for their 2022-23 home opener. In a back-and-forth affair in the first half the RedHawks were able to keep the Warriors and at arms-length and within striking distance.
Â
The RedHawks trailed by just four at the half 33-29 and a early second half made jumper from
Jared Johnson, give the RedHawks a brief advantage at 38-37. A second-half surge by Indiana Tech coupled with poor shooting from three-point range would prove too much to overcome as IU Northwest fell 70-59.
Â
A bucket by Isaac Stanback would give the RedHawks their final lead at 40-38 at the 15:40 mark of the second half, however the warriors would close the game on 32-19 run. Â Â Johnson led the RedHawks with 16 points and added 7 rebounds. IU Northwest shot just 35% for the game and 18% (4-22) from long distance.
Â
Malik Miller was the only other RedHawk in double figures and Stanback added a team high 10 rebounds. The RedHawks facing a challenging early non-conference schedule dropped to 0-3 on the season.
