Chicago, Ill. - IU Northwest Men's Basketball mission on Wednesday on the road at Roosevelt was to secure their first win of the 2022-23 season and start the CCAC schedule with a win. Mission accomplished. The RedHawks were tough in a see-saw first half and staved off a late Laker rally to earn the 82-75 victory, their first of the season and begin conference play 1-0.
Isaac Stanback was a force all evening, pacing the RedHawks with a double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds as his 10 first half points helped IUN build a 6 point halftime advantage at 38-32. His three-point play with 15 minutes remaining in regulation would help IUN build their biggest lead of the game at 55-40. A furious Laker rally would trim the RedHawk lead to just 1 point 73-72 with a minute remaining, however Lamrius Lillard's clutch three point play in the paint would push the lead back to a two possession game and seal the win for IUN.
The RedHawks (1-3) were led with a trio of 20-point performances paced by Stanback and also getting 20 points each from Lillard and
Jared Johnson. IU Northwest point guard Malik Miller added 9 points and 6 assists before fouling pout with 8 minutes remaining. The RedHawks shot 47% for the game including 59% in the second half while holding the Lakers to just 40% for the game. Lillard added 6 rebounds and a pair of blocks while Johnson grabbed seven boards and connected on a pair of three point field goals.
