Women's Basketball Suffers Setback Against (RV) St. Ambrose Wednesday

GARY, Ind.  -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team suffered a setback to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader (RV) St. Ambrose, 67-53, Wednesday.

GAME RECAP
Both teams traded baskets at the beginning of the game, SAU went ahead 7-6 early. Sarah Martin and Meghan Long made back-to-back buckets to give IU Northwest a 10-7 lead. 

The Fighting Bees bounced back and went on a 7-0 run to pull ahead 14-10. Sarah Martin converted a three-point play towards the end of the first quarter to cut it back down to one.

Both teams traded baskets in the first five and a half minutes which made it 21-all. Karli Miller, Michaela Schmidt and Lauren Smolen all had baskets for IU Northwest.

SAU closed out the half after scoring the last eight points. The Fighting Bees were ahead 29-21 at the break.

Tiara Jackson opened up the second half for the RedHawks with a layup. St. Ambrose went on another 7-0 run to go up 36-23.  

Long and Jackson responded with baskets. SAU was up 38-27 with 4:44 left in the third quarter then scored 12 unanswered points to pull ahead 50-27.

Katelyn Halfacre responded with a three-pointer then the Fighting Bees got it right back. Jackson closed out the third quarter with a layup to make it 53-32.

Halfacre started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer then had a jump shot to cut it to 57-37. Moments later, Halfacre knocked down back-to-back threes to cut it to 62-46 with 2:46 left in the contest.

SAU ended up winning the game 67-53.

UP NEXT
IU Northwest will look to bounce back Saturday, January 22 as the RedHawks host Cardinal Stritch in a CCAC matchup at the Savannah Center beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
