GAME RECAP
Olivet Nazarene scored the first six points of the game to ahead 6-0. IU Northwest responded right back with six straight of their own after back-to-back layups by Michaela Schmidt and Lauren Smolen and a jumper by Sarah Martin.
ONU bounced back and went on an 11-1 run to go ahead 17-7 with 3:11 to play in the opening frame. ONU went ahead 26-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Schmidt opened up the second quarter with a basket to make it 26-16 in favor of the Tigers. ONU jumped out to a 45-20 lead with 6:33 left after going on a 19-4 run the next three minutes.
Sarah Martin tried to start a rally for IU Northwest after making back-to-back baskets. The Tigers would respond with baskets of their own to keep building on their lead.
Meghan Long and Smolen went into the halftime break with back-to-back baskets to try to give the RedHawks some momentum. ONU led 58-34 at the half.
The Tigers started the second half with a three-pointer. Schmidt converted on an and-one with 8:04 to go in the third period to look for a run and it did help the RedHawks with a 10-2 spurt which made it 65-47 ONU.
Moments later, Schmidt converted on another three-point play which made it 76-54 in favor of the Tigers. IU Northwest ended the third quarter after Katelyn Halfacre hit a three-pointer and Karli Miller knocked one down from three-point land at the buzzer which made it 79-60 ONU.
Olivet Nazarene started the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run to pull ahead 89-62 with 7:50 to play in the game. Schmidt converted on her third and one of the game to spark some offense.
Miller also converted the three-point play a few moments later to make it 89-70. Halfacre hit a jumper and a three-pointer to cut it to 98-79 with under four minutes to go.
ONU would hang onto their lead the rest of the way. The Tigers came out on top 102-86.
