Volleyball Sweeps Both Matches of Manchester Tri-Match Saturday

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest volleyball team went into the Manchester University Tri-Match and picked up a pair of victories against Manchester, 3-2 and St. Mary's, 3-1.

Set 1: Manchester 26, IU Northwest 24

  • IU Northwest went up 3-1 early in the first set before Manchester scored four in a row to grab a 5-3 lead.
  • The Spartans led 11-8 moments later then the RedHawks scored three consecutive points to tie 11-all.
  • MU kept going ahead by three points but IUN was able to bounce back and tie it right back up.
  • It was tied at 24-all but the Spartans scored back-to-back points to win the set, 26-24.

Set 2: Manchester 27, IU Northwest 25

  • The RedHawks looked to bounce back in the second set after going up 6-2 early.
  • Manchester got right back into the set after going on a 5-1 run to make it 7-5 IUN.
  • IU Northwest went up as much as seven (16-9) but Manchester was able to fight back into the game. 
  • The RedHawks led 20-15 late in the second but the Spartans rallied for six points in a row to grab their first lead of the set.
  • IU Northwest responded with back-to-back points to grab the lead again.
  • MU was able to rally and win 27-25 to go up 2-0 going into the third set.

Set 3: IU Northwest 26, Manchester 24

  • Manchester looked to win the match in the third set but the RedHawks had other plans.
  • IU Northwest went ahead 8-5 early on but Manchester rallied to tie then eventually took the lead 14-11.
  • The Spartans would hold onto the lead late making it 20-16 Manchester.
  • The RedHawks went on a 4-1 run to make cut it within one.
  • MU was on set and match point at 24-22 but IUN scored four points in a row to win the third set 26-24 to stay alive.

Set 4: IU Northwest 25, Manchester 19

  • Manchester led 9-5 early in the fourth set.
  • IU Northwest was able to fight back and cut it to one at 11-10 MU.
  • The Spartans scored three in a row to make it 14-10 but the RedHawks scored four in a row for their first tie of the set since it was 2-2.
  • Manchester responded with two points but RedHawks scored three in a row for their first lead since 3-2.
  • IU Northwest led 18-17 late then outscored Manchester 7-2 the rest of the set to win the fourth set to force a winner-take-all fifth.

Set 5: IU Northwest 15, Manchester 11

  • Both teams traded points early on, making it 3-3.
  • IU Northwest led 12-7 late in the fifth set looking to put the match away.
  • Manchester got right back in the match after four points in a row made it 12-11 IUN.
  • The RedHawks then responded right away with three in a row to complete the comeback and win the match 3-2.

  • St. Mary's led 5-2 early in the first set.
  • IU Northwest bounced back and went on a 5-1 rally to tie it at 6-all.
  • The RedHawks led 11-8 then the Belles scored three in a row to tie it again at 11-11.
  • Both teams would trade points back-and-forth before the RedHawks went up 23-20 then ended up winning it 25-21.

Set 2: St. Mary's 25, IU Northwest 19

  • St. Mary's bounced back to tie the match at 1 after winning the second set.
  • IU Northwest did jump out to a 4-1 lead before the Belles went on a 6-1 rally to grab a 7-5 lead.
  • The closest the RedHawks got was 15-14 St. Mary's because the Belles scored six unanswered for a 21-14 lead.
  • IUN looked to get back in the set after scoring the next four but St. Mary's was too much as they won the set, 25-19.

Set 3: IU Northwest 25, St. Mary's 15

  • IU Northwest bounced back and won the third set, 25-15, to grab a 2-1 lead.
  • The RedHawks jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the set and would not give up that lead.
  • IU Northwest went up 12-9 then scored four in a row to make it 16-9.
  • St. Mary's scored the next point before the RedHawks went on another rally for a 20-11 lead.

Set 4: IU Northwest 25, St. Mary's 10

  • IU Northwest won the fourth set in convincing fashion, 25-10, to win the match 3-1.
  • The RedHawks led 6-2 early again in the fourth set.
  • IU Northwest scored six in a row to make it 13-4 then St. Mary's got a point back.
  • IUN scored five unanswered for another rally which made it 18-5.

  • IU Northwest Volleyball will be back in action Tuesday, September 21 as the RedHawks host CCAC opponent Saint Ambrose at the Savannah Center with time scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
