IU Northwest Volleyball Drops Both Matches at Cardinal Stritch Tri-Match Saturday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Indiana University Northwest volleyball team played two matches at the Cardinal Stritch Tri-Match Saturday. The RedHawks lost the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match to host Cardinal Stritch, 3-0, then dropped their match against Clarke, 3-1.

  • Both teams were tied 4-4 in the early stages of the game then Cardinal Stritch scored three in a row to grab a 7-4 lead.
  • IU Northwest cut it 15-11 midway through the second set.
  • The Wolves scored seven points in a row to grab a 22-11 lead.
  • Cardinal Stritch had their biggest lead at 24-12 late in the second set but then the RedHawks scored five in a row to make it 24-17 but then the Wolves scored the next point to win the first set.

Set 2: Cardinal Stritch 25, IU Northwest 17

  • Cardinal Stritch had a 11-3 early lead in the second set.
  • IU Northwest cut it back to 14-10 after going on a 7-3 run.
  • The Wolves pulled away late in the second set to win the set.
  • Cardinal Stritch won the set, 25-17.

Set 3: Cardinal Stritch 25, IU Northwest 17

  • Both teams traded the first points to make it 2-2.  
  • Cardinal Stritch made it 11-6 after going on a 9-4 rally.
  • Stritch made it 16-9 then IU Northwest scored four in a row but then after the Wolves responded with four of their own.
  • The RedHawks scored three more in a row to make it 20-16 but Cardinal Stritch had the answer again.
  • Cardinal Stritch won the third set 25-17 then won the match 3-0.

  • Clarke led 9-3 then IU Northwest got an ace. 
  • The Pride padded on their lead to make it 16-7.
  • The RedHawks scored five in a row to make 16-12 Clarke. 
  • IU Northwest cut it to two (19-17) after a service ace by the RedHawks. 
  • Clarke took advantage the rest of the set to grab a 1-0 lead.

Set 2: IU Northwest 25, Clarke 21

  • IU Northwest took the second set, 25-21, to tie the match at 1-1.
  • The second set was tied 4-4 before IU Northwest scored four points in a row to make it 8-4.
  • Clarke made it a one-point deficit after making a rally of their own.
  • The Pride eventually grabbed the lead 14-12 for a short time before IU Northwest tied it back up at 15-all.
  • Both teams traded the next few points before the RedHawks grabbed a 20-17 lead.
  • IU Northwest held on for the second set victory.

Set 3: Clarke 25, IU Northwest 15

  • Clarke came out of the gates in the third set with a 6-0 lead early before the RedHawks responded. 
  • Every time the RedHawks would try to inch closer, Clarke would have the answer and expand on their lead.
  • IU Northwest made it as close as five but the Pride pulled away. 

Set 4: Clarke 25, IU Northwest 17

  • Clarke put the match away after winning the fourth set. 
  • The Pride went up 4-0 early in the set and never looked back. 
  • IU Northwest scored four in a row of their own to make it 10-8 Clarke.
  • The closest the RedHawks got was two points a few times but unable to get closer.
  • Clarke put the match away after grabbing a 22-15 lead late then eventually won 25-17.

  • IU Northwest will be back in action Tuesday, September 14 as the RedHawks travel to Lincoln College for a CCAC matchup starting at 7 p.m. CT.
