QUARTER BREAKDOWN
FIRST QUARTER (IU Northwest 9, Governors State 9)
- Not much offense in the early going of the contest as Lauren Smolen scored the first basket two minutes into the game.
- IU Northwest went ahead 6-1 after back-to-back buckets by Samantha Martin and Karli Miller.
- Governors State answered right back with a three-pointer.
- Smolen gave the RedHawks the 9-6 lead late in the first period then the Jaguars hit a three to tie it up at the end of the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER (Governors State 26, IU Northwest 16)
- The second quarter was all Governors State as the Jaguars outscored the RedHawks, 17-7.
- Martin made a jumper to start the scoring in the second quarter then Governors State went on an 11-1 run to go ahead 20-12.
- Martin converted on a huge and-one with 2:23 left in the half to make it 23-16 Jaguars.
- GSU closed out the half scoring the last three points to have a 26-16 lead going into the break.
THIRD QUARTER (IU Northwest 35, Governors State 35)
- Martin helped put the RedHawks right back in the game with a big third quarter as IU Northwest outscored Governors State, 19-9, including a three-pointer to start the second half.
- Meghan Long converted on a huge and-one play to get the RedHawks some momentum for the quarter.
- Back-to-back baskets by Miller and Smolen tied the game at 35-all towards the end of the third.
- Both teams were tied 35-35 at the end of the third quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER (IU Northwest 52, Governors State 42)
- IU Northwest took control of the game in the fourth quarter outscoring Governors State, 17-7.
- Governors State would start the scoring in the final period but back-to-back buckets by Martin and Michaela Schmidt put the RedHawks ahead for the first time since the opening quarter.
- The RedHawks held the Jaguars off the scoreboard for the final 3:42 of the game.
- Schmidt hit the dagger with 3:25 left to go as the sophomore hit a three-pointer for a 46-42 advantage.
- IU Northwest ended up making some clutch free throws down the stretch as the RedHawks won 52-42.

- IU Northwest will wait to see their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals matchup. The RedHawks will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take on Cardinal Stritch Thursday starting at 7 p.m. CT.
