Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches Against St. Xavier and Trinity International

GARY, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's volleyball team lost a pair of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchups with setbacks against St. Xavier on February 6 and Trinity International on February 11.

The Cougars (2-0, 1-0 CCAC) won 3-0 against the RedHawks (1-1, 1-1 CCAC). The scores were 25-11, 25-21, 25-15, inside the Savannah Center on February 6.

The Trojans was (4-2, 3-0 CCAC) defeated IU Northwest is (1-2, 1-2 CCAC) in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22), inside the Savannah Center on February 11.

SXU 3, IU Northwest 0 (02/06/2021)

FIRST SET (SXU 25, IUN 11)

  • Both teams traded early points back-and-forth early in the first set with it being 3-3.
  • SXU was able to have a rally and score five unanswered to grab a 8-3 lead.
  • Chloe Roberts tried to keep the RedHawks in the set after recording a kill but SXU would keep adding on.
  • Alexis Turner recorded three straight kills for the RedHawks as she picked up the next three points for IU Northwest.
  • SXU would eventually take the set 25-11.

SECOND SET (SXU 25, IUN 21)

  • The second set was a lot closer for IU Northwest.
  • The RedHawks led 3-1 early on before the Cougars tied it at 3-all.
  •  SXU went on a 6-1 run to pull ahead 9-4 in the early stages of the second set.
  • Maddie Maatman recorded a kill to start a run for IU Northwest.
  • IUN made it down to 12-10 but the Cougars were one step ahead. 
  • Briah Stretzo was able to tie the match at 17-all after recording a kill then IU Northwest grabbed a short 18-17 lead.
  • SXU went on a 8-3 run to close out the second set and win 25-21.

THIRD SET (SXU 25, IUN 15)

  • SXU led 7-2 early in the third set looking to complete the sweep.
  • Moments later, Kelsey Ferrell started and ended the rally with kills to make it 12-8 Cougars.
  • The Cougars made it 16-9 moments later then IU Northwest scored four in a row to make it back down to two-points at 16-14.
  • SXU won the set 25-15.
