Volleyball Drops Match Against St. Francis in Four Close Sets Tuesday

JOLIET, Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest volleyball team played four close sets against host St. Francis but the Fighting Saints came out on top and won 3-1 at the Pat Sullivan Center Tuesday.

SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: St. Francis (Ill.) 25, IU Northwest 23

  • USF led 5-2 early in the first set before the RedHawks scored three in a row to tie it at 5-all.
  • Both teams traded the next few points which made it 8-8.
  • IU Northwest scored five in a row to make it 13-8.
  • Moments later, IUN led 22-15 before USF scored nine out of the next 10 points to tie it 23-23.
  • The Fighting Saints scored the last two points of the first set to win it 25-23.

SET 2: IU Northwest 25, St. Francis (Ill.) 21

  • IU Northwest led early in this set after going ahead 8-4.
  • The RedHawks led 12-6 in the second set before the Fighting Saints fought back. 
  • USF rallied on a 8-2 run to tie the match at 14-all.
  • Both teams would trade ties the next few points.
  • The Fighting Saints pulled away after it was 18-18 to score three in a row but the RedHawks did not give up.
  • IU Northwest scored the next seven points to win the second set 25-21.

SET 3: St. Francis (Ill.) 25, IU Northwest 21

  • USF went up 7-0 in the third set after scoring the first seven points.
  • IUN looked to get back in the set after winning the next three. 
  • The Fighting Saints led 13-8 midway through the third set before the RedHawks won three in a row to make it 13-11.
  • St. Francis (Ill.) scored three in a row before IU Northwest scored six in a row to go up 17-16.
  • Both teams traded the next few points to make it 19-19.
  • The RedHawks scored the next two points to make it 21-19 then the Fighting Saints rallied and scored the next six to win 25-21.he 

SET 4: St. Francis (Ill.) 25, IU Northwest 23

  • IU Northwest led 7-3 early in the fourth set.
  • USF went on a 6-2 rally to tie the set at nine a piece.
  • Both teams traded leads for the next few points. 
  • The Fighting Saints went ahead 17-14 before the RedHawks scored four in a row to go ahead 18-17.
  • St. Francis went on another run to grab the lead 23-22, after the RedHawks tied it 23-all, USF scored the next two to win the set 25-23 and won the match 3-1.

  • IU Northwest will be back in action Thursday, October 28 as the RedHawks travel to Governors State for a CCAC matchup starting at 7 p.m. CT.
