Volleyball Rallies Twice on the Road Against Roosevelt Thursday

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest volleyball team had their backs against the wall twice, after losing the first and third set and won the match 3-2 against host Roosevelt in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match at the Goodman Center Thursday.

SET BREAKDOWN

SET 1: Roosevelt 25, IU Northwest 19

  • Both teams went back and forth to start the second set then Roosevelt rallied for five points in a row to grab a 9-5 lead.
  • IU Northwest looked to bounce back but the Lakers kept adding to their lead.
  • Roosevelt led 17-15 midway through the first set before RU scored five in a row for a 22-15 lead.
  • The Lakers won the first set 25-19.

SET 2: IU Northwest 25, Roosevelt 23

  • IU Northwest was able to bounce back and tie the match after winning the second set 25-23.
  • Roosevelt went ahead 7-2 early in the second set.
  • The RedHawks scored seven points in a row to grab a 9-7 lead.
  • Moments later, IU Northwest went ahead 14-10 before the Lakers scored four in a row to it at 14-all.
  • Roosevelt led 18-15 late the set before the RedHawks scored three in a row to tie it. 
  • RU led 23-22 before IU Northwest scored the last three points of the set.

SET 3: Roosevelt 29, IU Northwest 27

  • Roosevelt fought back and won the third set to lead 2-1.
  • The Lakers led 5-3 before IU Northwest scored six in a row for a 9-5 advantage.
  • The RedHawks went ahead 16-8 before RU scored four in a row.
  • IU Northwest led 23-14 late in the third set but the Lakers scored 10 points in a row to grab a 24-23 lead.
  • Both teams traded points then Roosevelt scored the last two to win the third set 29-27.

SET 4: IU Northwest 25, Roosevelt 21

  • Roosevelt led again early in the fourth set, 4-1.
  • The Lakers went up 11-6 before IU Northwest tied it at 14-all.
  • IU Northwest led 18-16 then scored the next four points to go up 22-16.
  • Roosevelt bounced back and rallied for five in a row to cut it to 22-21.
  • The RedHawks closed it out by taking three straight to win the fourth set 25-21.

SET 5: IU Northwest 18, Roosevelt 16

  • Roosevelt led 5-3 early in the winner-take-all set.
  • The Lakers scored four in a row to extend their lead to 9-3.
  • RU led 12-6 late in the fifth set before IU Northwest scored three in a row to make it 12-9 Lakers.
  • The Lakers led 14-11 before the RedHawks went on a 7-2 run including the last two points to win 18-16 and captured the set and match.
