Box Score South Bend, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team saw their season come to an end as the RedHawks lost to host IU South Bend in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals Wednesday.
The Titans (23-8) defeated the RedHawks (17-14), 108-70, at the Student Activities Center, Wednesday.
IUSB led 12-5 in the early stages of the game. IUN tied it back up after scoring seven straight points after Rashad Richardson (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jeff) made back-to-back layups and Jamisen Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) nailed a three-pointer.
Marshaud Watkins (Harvey, Ill.) hit a three-pointer a few moments later to make it 17-14 IUN with 12:20 remaining in the first half. The Titans responded right away with 11 straight points to make it 25-17 in favor of IUSB.
Martellian Gibson (Rantoul, Ill.) ended the drought with a huge shot from down town. Moments later, Watkins cut it back to eight points (31-23) after hitting a huge trifecta but that was the closest IUN got the rest of the half.
IUN tried to keep it close after Gibson hit a three-pointer towards the end of the half. IUSB had the answer as the Titans had a buzzer-beater three to go up 49-37 at the break.
The second half was a completely different story. IUSB took total control of the game after the break.
Smith did open up the second half with a bucket to cut it back down to 10 but then USB went on a run and never looked back. The Titans came out on top 108-70.
Five players recorded double figures for IUN to lead the way. Gibson had a double-double as the junior scored 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Smith led all scorers for the RedHawks with 20 points. Richardson recorded 12 points in his final game with the RedHawks.
Peace added 11 points and eight rebounds while Watkins had 10 points in the setback.
IUN finishes their first year in the CCAC with a 17-14 record and a 13-9 mark in the conference. Richardson is the lone senior that graduates for the RedHawks.
