Women's Basketball Drops Contest to Saint Francis (Indiana) Saturday

GARY, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest Women's Basketball team could not find a rhythm on Saturday as the RedHawks suffered a defeat to Saint Francis on Saturday.

The Cougars (6-1) defeated the RedHawks (1-3) 60-36, at the Savannah Center, Saturday.

QUARTER BREAKDOWN
FIRST QUARTER (Saint Francis 20, IU Northwest 7)

  • The opening quarter was all Saint Francis outscoring IU Northwest 20-7 after both teams had slow starts.
  • Saint Francis opened up the scoring for the game at 2-0.
  •  Lauren Smolen responded with a basket to tie at 2.
  • The Cougars scored eight in a row to make it 10-2 then Meghan Long ended the drought to make it 10-5.
  • SFU ended the period on another 10-2 run.

SECOND QUARTER (Saint Francis 29, IU Northwest 16)

  • Both teams had slow starts once again but after Saint Francis made a basket, Breanna Boles responded with a three-pointer.
  • IU Northwest was able to cut it down to 10 (24-14) after back-to-back baskets by Taylor Jaksich and Alexis Vieck
  • SFU went into the half-time break up 29-16.

THIRD QUARTER (Saint Francis 47, IU Northwest 26)

  •  Smolen and Vieck made the first two buckets of the second half to make it a 10-point game again (30-20).
  •  The Cougars had the answer as SFU scored 14 points in a row to tie their biggest lead of the day which was 24.
  • Ally McConnell ended that run with a three-pointer to make it 44-23.
  • Moments later, McConnell hit another three to try to get the RedHawks back in it.
  • SFU led 47-26 after the third quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER (Saint Francis 60, IU Northwest 36)

  •  Vieck started the final quarter with a bucket to make it 47-28 SFU.
  •  A few minutes later, Sarah Martin made it a 17-point game after making a basket but that was the closest IU Northwest got the rest of the way.
  •  Saint Francis won the game 60-36.

FINAL SCORE (Saint Francis 20-9-18-13-60; IUN 7-9-10-10-36)
