Box Score Crown Point, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's soccer team had a dominant first half on the defensive side of the ball allowing only goal but it was unable to hold up for the second as the RedHawks fell 5-0 against Cornerstone Saturday.
Micah Boggs put the Golden Eagles ahead early with his goal in the third minute to make it 1-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Maxwell Higgins (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) was busy the entire first half, despite allowing only one goal in the first half the goalie picked up five huge saves in the first 45 minutes. The Golden Eagles also had 17 shot attempts with six being on goal.
Sophomore Jacob Damski (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) tried to tie the match heading into the halftime break after going on the attack but his shot attempt was saved. The score was 1-0 at half.
Cornerstone turned up the offense in the second half recording four goals and 11 more shots with nine more on goal.
The Golden Eagles went up 2-0 in the 50th minute after a goal by Christian Galloway. Four minutes later, David Maui put Cornerstone ahead 3-0 with his goal in the 54th minute.
In the 70th minute, CU went up 4-0 after Isai Ordonez was found by Christian Galloway to knock one through the back of the net. Cornerstone ended up with their last goal of the night after Colton Fair scored in the 77th minute.
Freshman Will Carroll (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) tried to put the RedHawks on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute but the goalkeeper was right there with the save.
IUN Men's Soccer returns to action Wednesday, September 25 as the RedHawks host Trinity Christian College at the Crown Point Sportsplex starting at 8 p.m. CT.
