Box Score 2 North Manchester, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's volleyball team had a strong showing on the last day of the Manchester University Tournament on Saturday as the RedHawks defeated Governors State, 3-0, and defeated NCAA Division III Opponent Manchester, 3-1.
Match 1: IUN 3, GSU 0
IUN won the opener in a close back-and-forth first set after the RedHawks won 25-23.
The RedHawks came out out strong for the second set capturing the second set, 25-15.
Similar to the first set, the third one came down to the very end but the RedHawks were victorious and won the final one, 28-26 and won the match 3-0.
Sophomore Bella Kuechenberg (Lowell, Ind./Bishop Noll) was able to record another double-double for IUN, after picking up 10 kills and 11 digs. Emileishka De Jesus (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) led the RedHawks on the attack as the sophomore recorded 11 kills.
Senior Cara Nebel (Portage, Ind./Portage) also had a double-double in a huge way, picking up 26 assists which led to kills and 15 digs. Maddie Maatman (Beecher, Ill./Illiana Christian) had a big night setting as well as the junior picked up 15 assists.
Junior Caitlin Alwine (Goshen, Ind.) did a nice job on defense after she was able to record 19 digs which led the RedHawks.
Match 2: IUN 3, MU 1
Coming off the sweep of Governors State, IUN had no time to rest as the RedHawks had to take on Manchester right afterwards. The Spartans took advantage of that and won the first set, 25-22.
The RedHawks fought back in a huge way after dominating the second set and winning it 25-10.
IUN captured the third set, 25-16, to go ahead 2-1. The RedHawks won the match after winning the fourth set the same exact score as the previous one, 25-16.
Dominant second match for De Jesus picking up a season high 24 kills for the four sets. Nebel recorded her second straight double-double picking up 19 assists and 11 digs.
Maatman had double figures in assists for the consecutive match, recording 16. Alwine led the RedHawks once again in digs as the junior picked up 20.
IUN Women's Volleyball (7-3) returns to the court Tuesday, September 24 as the RedHawks host a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Cardinal Stritch at the Savannah Center on the campus of Indiana University Northwest starting at 7 p.m. CT.
