Box Score

Gary, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's volleyball team started their home Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule on a high note as the RedHawks swept Calumet College of St. Joseph Tuesday.

The RedHawks (3-1, 2-0 CCAC) defeated the Crimson Wave (1-3, 0-2 CCAC), 3-0, with scores of 25-9, 25-10, 25-15, at Savannah Center, Tuesday.

IUN started the first set going ahead 12-2 thanks to a kill by sophomore Emileishka De Jesus (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) to start the match then the Crimson Wave scored five out of the next seven points to make it 14-7 to get back in the match but the RedHawks used a 11-2 run the rest of the way to win the first set, 25-9.

The second set looked like it would go back and forth but with IUN leading 4-3, the RedHawks took control of the match including scoring the last six points with a kill by Bella Kuechenberg (Lowell, Ind.) and a service ace by De Jesus and ended up winning the set, 25-10.

The RedHawks looked to get their second straight sweep going into the third set and had a promising start going ahead 6-1 with a kill by junior Erica Kik (Griffith, Ind./Griffith). CCSJ tried to get back into the match but freshman Mary Markusic (Munster, Ind./Bishop Noll) had a huge kill to make it 13-6 midway through the third set.
