Box Score South Bend, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start and turnovers against No. 24 Indiana South Bend as the Titans came out on top at the Student Activities Center Saturday.
The Titans (12-1, 6-1 CCAC) defeated the RedHawks (5-7, 2-4 CCAC), 63-46, at the Student Activities Center Saturday.
Both teams had slow starts in the early going. IUSB shot 22% in the opening period while IUN shot 33%.
The Titans led 9-8 after the first quarter after IUSB knocked down a pair of free throws.
Michaela Schmidt (Highland, Ind./Highland) opened the second quarter with a basket to give the RedHawks a 10-9 lead. IUSB responded with back-to-back baskets for a 13-10 advantage.
Breanna Boles (Lapel, Ind.) tied it back up for the RedHawks with her jumpshot with 5:24 left in the half. IUSB opened up a four-point lead again then Boles converted on an and-one with under a minute left to make it a one point game.
IUSB went into the halftime break with a 19-16 after making a basket with 26 seconds left.
IUN opened the second half with a basket by Sarah Martin (Demotte, Ind./Kankakee Valley) to make it 19-18 then the Titans scored the next nine points to take a 28-18 lead. Da'Leshia Davis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) ended the IUN drought with a layup.
The Titans scored a three and converted on and-one to make it 33-20 with 4:23 left in the third quarter. Both teams traded points the rest of the quarter as IUSB went into the fourth ahead 42-29.
The fourth quarter was all IUSB as the Titans went on a 11-4 run to give them their biggest lead of the game which was 20 (53-33) with 6:30 left in the game. IUN tried to get back in the game after recording the next three baskets to make it 53-39 but that was the closest the RedHawks got the rest of the way.
IUSB closed out the game and picked up the 63-46 victory.
Boles led the RedHawks with a near double-double with 19 points and on the glass with nine rebounds. Martin also recorded 11 points to round out the leaders for IUN.
IUN returns to action Saturday, December 14 as the RedHawks host Judson at the Savannah Center with game time scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
