RedHawks Explode for Program-Record 13 Goals in Historic Rout of Mount Mary

Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Maya Maldonado recorded a hat trick, Piper Ellenberger matched her with three goals of her own, and Mari Williams reached double digits in season goals, as the Indiana University Northwest women's soccer team overwhelmed Mount Mary 13-0 on Tuesday.

The RedHawks needed just 11 minutes to open the scoring, as Erin Harrison set up M. Maldonado for the game's first goal. IUN didn't let up from there. Harrison struck back moments later in the 23rd minute, assisted by M. Maldonado, before M. Maldonado added her second of the match in the 25th minute off a feed from Williams to make it 3-0.

Ellenberger entered the scoring column in the 31st minute, converting an assist from Hannah Pesich, and added an unassisted strike four minutes later to push the lead to 5-0 before halftime.

The RedHawks kept their foot on the gas after the break. M. Maldonado completed her hat trick in the 46th minute, assisted by Gabby Maldonado, and Williams found the net moments later to make it 7-0. Daisy Bonilla joined the scoring parade with a goal in the 53rd minute, assisted by M. Maldonado, and Teyha Guiden added an unassisted goal of her own in the 57th minute to make it 9-0. Williams converted a penalty kick in the 63rd minute for her 10th goal of the season.

Alanis Gonzalez added a goal in the 70th minute, and Ellenberger completed her own hat trick in the 75th minute off an assist from Gonzalez. Isabella Soria closed the scoring in the 79th minute to cap the 13-0 final.

IUN finished with a staggering 68 shots and 53 shots on goal, testing Mount Mary's goalkeepers all match long. Kaleigh Blatti was not needed in the RedHawks net, as Mount Mary was held without a single shot in the match.

With the win, Indiana Northwest improves to 6-4-1 on the season. The RedHawks are back in action Saturday, Oct. 3, on the road at Governors State University. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CDT.
