HANNIBAL, Mo. — IU Northwest men's soccer couldn't solve a persistent Hannibal-LaGrange attack Saturday, falling 2-0 on the road despite a strong performance in goal from Carter Levesque.
The host Trojans took control in the shot column early and cashed in late in the first half. Caio Logo broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, finishing off a Diego Domiguez-Stremmel assist for his third goal of the season to give Hannibal-LaGrange a 1-0 edge at the break.
IU Northwest pushed for an equalizer in the second half, with Ezekiel Mugisha, Josh Braun and Cesar Lopez all testing Hannibal-LaGrange goalkeeper Sergio Arenas, but the Redhawks couldn't find the back of the net. Levesque, meanwhile, stood tall at the other end, turning away six shots and keeping IU Northwest within a goal deep into the second half despite facing a heavy volume of Trojan pressure throughout the match.
Hannibal-LaGrange put the game away in the 86th minute when Marco Antonio Ramos converted a Jose Benavidez Ortiz assist to make it 2-0, closing the door on any late Redhawks comeback bid.
IU Northwest was outshot 19-9 on the night but stayed competitive thanks to Levesque's night in net, and the Redhawks generated their own share of chances, with Eric Lopez, Chrisitan Sanclemente Roa and Damian Lopez all getting shots on frame in the first half.
IU Northwest is back on the road Wednesday, Sept. 16, to face Goshen College (Ind.). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Goshen, Ind.
