GARY, Ind. — Indiana University Northwest put together a strong second-half performance to pull away from Judson (Ill.) and secure a 71–60 victory Friday afternoon at the Savannah Center.
Prior to tipoff, the RedHawks honored their three seniors — Ladaion Barnes, Caleb Jenkins and AJ Williams — recognizing their contributions to the program before a spirited home crowd.
Judson controlled the early tempo, but IU Northwest opened the scoring with an emphatic dunk from Amarion Johnson, setting the tone inside as both teams traded runs through the opening minutes. The RedHawks stayed within reach trailing just 33–28 at the break.
The RedHawks flipped the script in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the floor and outscoring Judson 43–27 over the final 20 minutes. Jaden Lee provided a momentum-shifting sequence midway through the half, tracking down an offensive rebound and finishing with a dunk, igniting the bench and pushing IU Northwest further in front as defensive pressure continued to generate transition opportunities.
Trey Steinhilber sparked the rally, finishing with a game-high 18 points, knocking down four 3-pointers and dishing out eight assists to keep the offense flowing. Antonio Phillips provided a strong presence on both ends, scoring 18 points on efficient shooting while adding physical play inside.
Amarion Johnson turned in a well-rounded effort with 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks, officially moving him into third place in the RedHawks' single-season record book with 43 blocks. Caleb Jenkins added eight points, while AJ Williams contributed five points, six rebounds and defensive energy in the paint.
Indiana Northwest finished with a 37–34 rebounding edge and forced 20 Judson turnovers, converting them into 21 points, which proved to be a key difference down the stretch.
Indiana Northwest shot 41.9 percent from the field (26 of 62) and connected on 36.0 percent from three-point range (9 of 25), while going 10 of 16 at the free-throw line. The RedHawks held a 37–34 rebounding edge and forced 20 Judson turnovers, converting those miscues into 21 points, which proved to be a key factor in pulling away during the second half.
Indiana Northwest returns home Wednesday, Feb. 11, hosting Trinity Christian (Ill.) with tipoff set for 6 p.m. at the Savannah Center.
