EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — The Indiana University Northwest men's soccer team used two second-half goals to erase a two-goal deficit, but Goshen College answered late to hand the RedHawks a 3-2 loss Wednesday night at East Chicago Central High School.
After falling behind 2-0 at halftime, the RedHawks (1-5-0) roared back behind a pair of first-time scorers. Sophomore defender Erick Gonzalez put IU Northwest on the board in the 51st minute, finishing a setup from Tristyn Kososkie to cut the deficit to 2-1. Just five minutes later, junior forward Sergio Orellana struck for his first collegiate goal, slotting home a pass from Cesar Lopez to bring the match level at 2-2.
The equalizer ignited the RedHawks, who created several more chances as momentum swung their way. But Goshen (4-1-1) regained control in the 72nd minute when Eli Simones converted a penalty kick, sealing the 3-2 result.
Goalkeeper Devun Collins stood tall in net, turning aside eight shots while facing 15 overall. IU Northwest recorded seven shots on the night, including three on goal, and earned two corner kicks in the second half to fuel its comeback push.
The RedHawks return home Saturday, Sept. 13, to host Hannibal-LaGrange University at 1 p.m. in East Chicago.
