UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – Behind a dominant performance from Trace Williams, Indiana Northwest held off a second-half surge from Governors State to claim a 92-87 road victory Wednesday night in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Williams poured in a game-high 31 points on 10-of-14 shooting while adding seven rebounds and six assists. His all-around effort helped the RedHawks (21-6, 15-4 CCAC) stay in second place in the conference standings with just one game left in the regular season. Anthony Taylor added 16 points, while Caleb Jenkins provided a spark off the bench with 12 points in just 14 minutes.
Indiana Northwest took control early, shooting a scorching 66.7% from the field in the first half to build a 51-37 lead at the break. The RedHawks were efficient inside, outscoring the Jaguars 48-32 in the paint while also converting 75.8% of their free throws.
Governors State (12-15, 8-11 CCAC) refused to go down quietly, storming back in the second half behind the play of Tyrell Isom, who finished with 25 points. Vincent Davis was a force in the paint, tallying 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Jaguars' second-chance attack. Governors State capitalized on 17 offensive rebounds to outscore Indiana Northwest 17-10 in second-chance points, trimming the deficit to single digits late in the game.
Despite the late push, Indiana Northwest remained composed down the stretch, converting timely free throws and forcing key stops to secure the win. The victory extends the RedHawks' strong conference campaign as they prepare for their regular-season finale.
Indiana Northwest will return home for Senior Night on Saturday, Feb. 22, when they host Viterbo at 3 p.m. CT in their final game before the CCAC Tournament.
