GARY, Ind. — IU Northwest used a late second-half surge to pull away from Viterbo on Tuesday night, earning a 72–66 victory at the Savannah Center and extending its winning streak.
The RedHawks (5–2, 3–1 CCAC) found themselves in a battle from the start, as Viterbo's Colin Adams caught fire early, scoring 19 first-half points and leading the V-Hawks to a narrow 36–35 advantage at the break. IU Northwest struggled to find consistent rhythm during the opening 20 minutes, turning the ball over 11 times while battling Viterbo's efficient perimeter shooting.
But the RedHawks flipped the momentum in the second half. Behind a composed defensive effort and efficient shot-making, IU Northwest opened the half on a steady 14–6 run, fueled by a pair of threes from Ladaion Barnes and strong inside play from Amarion Johnson.
Barnes delivered another standout performance, pouring in a game-high 27 points on 6-of-8 shooting from deep. The senior guard ignited the RedHawks every time they needed a momentum swing, burying four second-half triples to erase Viterbo's lead and push IUN in front for good.
Caleb Jenkins added nine points and nine rebounds while helping steady the offense in transition. Matthew Hoarde contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists, including a dagger three from the right wing with 2:46 left that stretched the lead to 65–62. Steinhilber's driving finish and-and-one conversion with 1:28 remaining sealed the game at 70–63.
Defensively, IU Northwest tightened significantly after halftime, holding Viterbo to just 37.9 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes and limiting Adams to 10 second-half points.
The RedHawks return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 3, traveling to Trinity Christian College for a 6 p.m. matchup.
