LA CROSSE, Wis. — Indiana Northwest men's basketball bounced back in a big way on Wednesday night, securing an impressive 88-74 road victory over Viterbo University in CCAC action. With the win, the RedHawks improved to 13-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play, while the V-Hawks fell to 3-13 and 1-8 in the CCAC.
Indiana Northwest controlled the game from the opening tip, using a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense to establish a double-digit lead early in the first half. By halftime, the RedHawks had built a commanding 48-37 advantage, shooting an efficient 61.3% from the field in the opening 20 minutes. They continued their strong play in the second half, maintaining their lead and outscoring Viterbo 40-37 to secure the victory.
Trace Williams was the star of the night, pouring in a game-high 30 points on an efficient 11-of-16 shooting. He also added six rebounds, two steals, and an 8-of-8 performance at the free-throw line, showcasing his ability to dominate in all facets of the game. Ladaion Barnes provided a major spark from beyond the arc, hitting four three-pointers en route to a 19-point, six-rebound performance. Anthony Taylor was also a key contributor, finishing with 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists while shooting an impressive 6-of-8 from the field.
The RedHawks' defense was just as impactful, holding Viterbo to 41.3% shooting overall and forcing 10 turnovers. Demarius Splunge was a force on the glass, pulling down a game-high eight rebounds while also chipping in three points and three assists. The RedHawks dominated inside, scoring 48 points in the paint and out-rebounding Viterbo 32-29.
For Viterbo, Colin Adams led the way with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Cole Crubel added 14 points, including two three-pointers. Despite their efforts, the V-Hawks were unable to overcome Indiana Northwest's efficient offense and relentless defensive pressure.
Indiana Northwest will look to build on their momentum when they face IU South Bend on the road Saturday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. CT in a pivotal CCAC matchup.
