GARY, Ind. – For the first time since joining the CCAC, the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team has been crowned conference tournament champions after defeating IU South Bend 88-63 Monday night inside the Savannah Center.
Through the first two minutes the contest was a back-and-forth battle, and then a
Jaylen Jennings layup was all the RedHawks needed as that began a 24-12 run. That swing put IUN up 13 at the 10:21 mark.
Before intermission the RedHawks jumped on top of the Titans by 26 after
Anthony Taylor sank a layup.
To begin the second period, Taylor put IUN up by 29 when he drained a shot from beyond the three-point arc. IUSB, however, got its deficit under 20 with 13 minutes to go, but the RedHawks quickly put their advantage back over 20 where it remained for the rest of the game.
Finishing up the game, IUN had three consecutive fast break dunks to put the exclamation point on the game.
Von Lillard had two of the jams, while
Kionne Layne finished it up with his thunder slam.
Next up for the RedHawks is the Thursday, March 7 announcement to find out where they will play in the NAIA Tournament.
