GARY, Ind. – Dannie Smith had his second straight double-double and the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team defeated Judson 76-62 Wednesday evening in conference action.
With the RedHawks victory they have secured a home CCAC Tournament game for Wednesday, Feb. 28.
In the early goings of the opening half, Judson hung on to a five-point lead, but when
Lamarius Lillard sank a three it sparked a 10-1 run. That run put IUN up by four with 6:40 left and the lead would get to seven right before intermission.
Starting the second half the RedHawks continued to hold the advantage, but the Eagles would retake the lead one more time at 45-44. A pair of Smith free throws tied the game, and then
Anthony Taylor slammed a ball home and that would put IUN up for good.
Later in the final 20 minutes, the RedHawks would find themselves up by 21 on Lillard's turn around jumper. On IUN's next possession, Taylor had another dunk, which would put the RedHawks up by a game-high 23.
Behind Smith's 19 points, Taylor finished 18, while
Demarius Splunge and
Trace Williams added 12 and 10 respectively.
Next up for IUN is a Saturday afternoon road game at St. Ambrose beginning at 3 p.m. in Davenport, Iowa.
