IU Northwest Bookstore Recap: RedHawks Fall to Rochester Christian University in Second Game of RCU Warrior Classic

Indiana Northwest's men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, falling to Rochester Christian 78-74 in a hard-fought contest at Garth Pleasant Arena.

Despite a strong showing from Trace Williams, who led the RedHawks (3-1) with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Indiana Northwest was unable to hold on to a narrow lead, as Rochester Christian surged in the second half. Williams battled inside, hitting 5-of-20 shots and going 7-of-9 from the free-throw line while also adding four assists and a steal. Ladaion Barnes added 16 points, going 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while Anthony Taylor chipped in 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Indiana Northwest led by as many as seven early in the second half, taking a 39-36 lead into the break. However, Rochester Christian's (3-0) Brett White came alive in the second half, finishing with a game-high 23 points, including three three-pointers and a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. Brody Parker added 20 points, converting 8-of-9 free throws, as Rochester Christian capitalized on trips to the line, shooting 80.6% for the game.

The RedHawks shot 38.6% from the field and struggled from three-point range, converting 26.9% of their attempts. In contrast, Rochester Christian's efficient free-throw shooting, particularly down the stretch, proved crucial in the final minutes. Indiana Northwest also committed 14 turnovers, leading to 16 points for Rochester Christian, while the Warriors' bench outscored Indiana Northwest's reserves 22-9.

Both teams were evenly matched on the boards, with Indiana Northwest narrowly outrebounding Rochester Christian 44-39. Caleb Jenkins contributed 10 rebounds for the RedHawks, including nine on the defensive end, while Dannie Smith added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Indiana Northwest is now 3-1 on the season and will look to get back into the win column next time out. The RedHawks will return home to the Savannah Center for their next game against Indiana University Kokomo on Saturday, November 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. CST.
