CROWN POINT, Ind. - The Indiana University Northwest Women's Soccer team hosted Saint Ambrose University in a key match with one point separating the two teams in the CCAC standings.
The Bees acted early when freshman defender Mia Vetter whipped a ball into the box that found the head of senior forward Kendall Wendt who put it past junior goalkeeper
Isabel Escalera.
The RedHawks had multiple opportunities to tie the match, and just when it looked like Saint Ambrose was going to take the lead into halftime, sophomore midfielder
Olivia Montes played a ball across the box and
Zoey Wells one-timed the shot into the back of the net. The match entered halftime 1-1. The assist for Montes was her second of the season, and the goal was Wells' second of the season.
In the 69
th minute, freshman midfielder Sophia Roszkowski had a breakaway one on one with Escalara and shot the ball into the corner of the net to put the Bees back in the lead 2-1.
Ten minutes later, the Bees would add to their lead when senior midfielder Kaitlyn Brunson won a ball in RedHawk territory and crossed the ball to the head of freshman forward Charlise Martel who finished it past Escalera putting the Bees up 3-1.
Saint Ambrose would hang on to the 3-1 lead for the remainder of the match. The loss dropped the RedHawks' overall record to 5-6-2 and 2-3-1 in the CCAC.
The RedHawks will be back in action Tuesday, October 15, when they travel to Joliet, Illinois for a showdown with the University of St. Francis, who currently sits atop the CCAC with an undefeated record of 4-0-2. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.
