NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The RedHawks faced Holy Cross College on Tuesday night in a crucial conference matchup, with both teams positioned in the middle of the standings. Coming off losses, each was eager to return to the win column.
The RedHawks had two scoring opportunities in the first half from senior midfielders
Olivia Hansen and
Salome Hernandez, but both shots were saved by freshman goalkeeper Madeleine Agee. The Saints took a 1-0 lead going into halftime, thanks to midfielder Erika Perez, who scored in the ninth minute. Holy Cross quickly extended their lead just four minutes into the second half when midfielder Neyda Macias found the back of the net.
The RedHawks managed four total shots in the second half, with attempts from sophomore
Zoey Wells, junior
Nora Loebbert, sophomore
Marisa Paredes, and Hansen, who had the only shot on goal for IU Northwest. Junior goalkeeper
Isabel Escalera added a save for the RedHawks.
With the loss, IU Northwest falls to 4-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the CCAC. They will return home on Saturday to host Indiana University South Bend at the Sparta Dome in Crown Point, Indiana. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CDT.
