Crown Point, Ind. - IU Northwest Women's Soccer earned a convincing 4-1 CCAC conference win over the visiting Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave.
The RedHawks struck early with the first of two goals by
Kelly Shaffer just nine minutes into the match as Shaffer capitalized off a great feed from Mackenzie Rainwater. Shaffer's second strike at 54' assisted by
Brynn Nylin would put the RedHawks up 2-0 on the scoreboard. Shaffer's lead the RedHawks with seven goals through IUN's first seven matches of the season. The Crimson Wave would cut the IUN lead in half at 65' with a 30 yard dart over RedHwks goal keeper Isabelle Escalera to bring hte match to 2-1.
IUN's
Brisa Sanford would create some breathing room for the RedHawks at 73' whe she found the back of the net off a great pass and assist from
Taya Rush. Nylin would complete the RedHawks scoring as notched the fourth IUN goal when she executed a penalty kick to help seal the win.
The RedHawks out-shot the Wave 20-2, with 13 of those shots coming on goal.
Coach's Perspective
"Overall we played well to get he win and thought we were better in the second half after a bit of a sluggish first half," said IUN Head Coach
Jamie McNicholas. "It was a good team win where we had contributions from several people and needed a win in the conference to get some momentum back on our side heading into the match this weekend with Governors State.

The RedHawks (1-3/2-3-2) will stay at the friendly confine of the Sportsplex, however be the rod team on the scoreboard when they face the Governors State Jaguars this Saturday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
