Men's Basketball Drops CCAC Contest to Olivet Nazarene Saturday

BOURBONNAIS. Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team was unable to come away with the victory Saturday as the RedHawks suffered a setback against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader (RV) Olivet Nazarene, 94-85, Saturday.

GAME RECAP
IU Northwest started the game on a 7-2 run after Jerron Tatum hit a three-pointer. Olivet Nazarene fought back and tied the contest at 11-all at the 15:03 mark.

Jared Johnson put the RedHawks ahead 18-16 then the Tigers scored eight unanswered points to grab a 24-18 lead with 11:13 left. Brian Hernandez ended that run with a basket. 

ONU led 31-24 with 9:23 left in the half then the RedHawks went on a day 7-2 run capped off by a three-pointer by VaShawn Sims to make it 33-31 Olivet Nazarene. Moments later, Tatum tied it up at 34-all with a three-pointer of his own.

Both teams traded the next few baskets before Sims gave IU Northwest a 41-40 lead with a three-pointer with 4:36 remaining in the half. Olivet would answer with a 15-2 run the rest of the half to go up 55-43 at the break.

Both teams traded baskets to start the second half with the buckets made by Larry Lynch. Moments later, the Tigers went up 69-54 with 15:32 to play.

IU Northwest would respond with six straight points capped off by a basket by Damond Crosby which made it 69-60. ONU made a pair free throws then went on a 9-4 run after Hernandez hit a three and a jumper then Tromon Weston made back-to-back layups to make it 73-69 Tigers.

Moments later, ONU would respond again and go ahead 82-73. Tatum tried to cut the deficit after making a three-pointer and a jump shot which made it 82-78 with 5:10 left in the contest.

Olivet once again went on a run this time going ahead 93-82. The Tigers ended up winning the game 94-85.

IU Northwest will be back in action Monday, January 17 for a makeup game against St. Xavier at the Savannah Center starting at 5 p.m. CT.
