Women's Soccer Records Shutout in 7-0 Victory Against Lincoln Christian Monday

LINCOLN, Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's soccer team used a balanced team effort as the RedHawks recorded their first ever shutout in program history with a 7-0 victory on the road against Lincoln Christian Monday.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF: IU Northwest 3, Lincoln Christian 0

  • Lincoln Christian looked to strike first in the opening minutes but Kelly Shaffer was right there for the save.
  • MacKenzie Rainwater went on the attack moments later but LCU's goalie recorded the save.
  • Janice Oprisko broke the 0-0 tie in the 29th minute after Rainwater found her to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.
  • Marisa Paredes passed to Oprisko, who then passed it into Cicily Porterwho found the back of the net to make it 2-0.
  • Vargas scored right before the half in the 44th minute after finding the back of the net to make it 3-0 after receiving the ball from Aahliyah Moreno.
  • Kelly Shaffer recorded three saves in the first half.

SECOND HALF: IU Northwest 4, Lincoln Christian 0

  • Vargas opened up the second half the same way she ended the first and that was with a goal to extend the lead to 4-0. 
  • Rainwater looked to break through but her shot was saved in the 47th minute.
  • IU Northwest made it 5-0 after Shaffer found the back of the net in the 71st minute. Shaffer played the field in the second half after being in goal during the first half.
  • Not too long later, Jenna Dye made it 6-0 in the 72nd minute.
  • Shaffer was not done as the freshman scored her second goal in as many minutes to extend the lead to 7-0.
  • Hayley Maze started the second half and recorded a clean sheet in goal and picking up a save.

FINAL SCORE: IU Northwest 7, Lincoln Christian 0

  • IU Northwest will be back in action Saturday, October 2 as the RedHawks travel to Crystal Lake, Illinois to take on the Judson Eagles starting at 11:45 a.m. CT.
