Women's Soccer Puts Up Strong First Half in Setback Against GSU Saturday

CROWN POINT, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest women's soccer put up a strong first half in their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match against Governors State as the Jaguars defeated the RedHawks, 3-0, at the Crown Point Sportsplex Saturday.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF: Governors State 0, IU Northwest 0

  • Jenna Dye tried to get the scoring going in the 14th minute but her shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
  • Kelly Shaffer recorded five saves in the first half. 
  • GSU recorded 16 shot attempts but the RedHawks defense did not allow one goal in that span.

SECOND HALF: Governors State 3, IU Northwest 0

  • Cicily Porter tried to break the scoreless tie but her shot went wide in the 53rd minute.
  • GSU got on the board first after Avery Damjanovic found the back of the net in the 56th minute. 
  • The Jaguars doubled their lead in the 81st minute after Anyssa Pazmino got the pass from Rebecca Mercado as she recorded her third goal of the season. 
  • The final tally of the night came in the 84th minute as Daisy Bonilla found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
  • Shaffer recorded 11 more saves in the second half to bring her total to 16 for the entire match.
