Men's Basketball Uses Balance Effort In Victory Against Calumet College Wednesday

GARY, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team used a team effort with four starters reaching double figures as the RedHawks earned their first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of season in their conference opener.

1st Half (IU Northwest 46, CCSJ 23)

  • Calumet College led 5-3 in the early stages of the game.
  • IU Northwest would score the next 10 points capped off by a three-pointer by Marshaud Watkinswhich made it 13-5.
  • CCSJ cut it to five (16-11) but that was the closest the Crimson Wave got the rest of the first half. 
  • Larry Lynch started the IU Northwest run after making back-to-back buckets.
  • Later in the half, Jared Johnson gave the RedHawks their biggest lead of the half after making a basket which made it 39-14 with 4:34 left.
  • Calumet cut it to 18 then the RedHawks scored the last five points of the half including a three-pointer by Martrellian Gibson.

2nd Half (IU Northwest 33, CCSJ 32)

  • Both teams were close to be evenly matched for points in the half but IU Northwest had a big lead heading into the frame anyway.
  • Gibson started the second half the same way he ended the first and that was with a three-pointer to make it a 26-point lead.
  • Damond Crosby made a basket after CCSJ looked to make a run.
  • Ryan LaFollette gave the RedHawks their biggest lead of the night with a bucket which made it 79-46 with 2:36 left in the game.
  • CCSJ scored the last 12 points of the game as IU Northwest won 79-55.

  • IU Northwest will be back in action Saturday, February 6 as the RedHawks travel to St. Xavier to take on the Cougars starting at 3 p.m. CT.
