Men's Basketball Suffers Setback Against St. Ambrose Saturday

GARY, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest suffered a setback on Saturday against St. Ambrose where the Fighting Bees shot 60% in the first half which paved the way for a 81-72 victory against the RedHawks.

HALF BREAKDOWN

FIRST HALF (SAU 47, IU Northwest 38)

  • Larry Lynch gave the RedHawks an early 7-4 lead after making a three-pointer then St. Ambrose quickly scored the next five points to grab a 9-7 lead and never trailed again.
  • IU Northwest would tie the contest over the course of the game but were unable to grab a lead.
  • SAU stretched it out to a 13-point lead with 5:33 to play in the first half. 
  • Back-to-back baskets by Martrellian Gibson and Lynch kept it under single digits.
  • Moments later, Jason Peace and Marshaud Watkins made back-to-back three-pointers to make it a 4-point game with 1:07 left to go before halftime.
  • The Fighting Bees scored the last five points of the half and holding the RedHawks without a bucket to grab a 47-38 lead at the break.

SECOND HALF (SAU 34, IU Northwest 34)

  • The late first half surge gave SAU momentum in the second as the Fighting Bees stretched out their lead to 15 which was their biggest of the night with 15:33 to play.
  • IU Northwest was able to bounce back and have an answer and scored 11 in a row which was capped off by a bucket by Jerron Tatum.
  • The closest the RedHawks were able to get is four points on multiple occassions. 
  • Jared Johnson was able to knock down a pair of three-pointers in consecutive possessions to make it down to four points but St. Ambrose always had the answer.
  • SAU had a 12-point lead going into the final minutes then Jason Peace was able to find an opening and knock one down from three-point land towards the end of the game.
  • St. Ambrose won the game 81-72.

  • IU Northwest will be back in action Wednesday, February 17 as the RedHawks travel to Olivet Nazarene to take on the Tigers starting at 7:30 p.m. CT.
