Men's Basketball Suffers Defeat Against IU East Saturday

RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest Men's Basketball team was unable to come from behind as the RedHawks dropped their contest 92-83 against IU East Saturday.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF (IU East 46, IU Northwest 39)

  • Both teams traded early points in the beginning stages of the game. 
  • Jared Johnson hit a huge three-pointer to give IU Northwest a 21-19 lead with 13:41 to go in the first half. 
  • IU East went on a 7-0 spurt to grab an 26-21 advantage.  
  • The RedHawks tried to crawl back into the game but the Red Wolves kept pulling away. 
  • IUE pulled ahead 33-25 with 7:33 left in the opening half.
  • IU Northwest looked to make the comeback as Louis Williams hit a three and Jason Peace made a bucket to make it a three-point deficit. 
  • That was the closest the RedHawks got as the Red Wolves went up 46-39 at the break.

SECOND HALF (IU East 92, IU Northwest 83)

  • IU East scored the first five points of the second half which gave them a 12-point lead (51-39) in the early stages of the second half.
  • A few moments later, The Red Wolves grabbed one of their biggest leads of the game which was 17 (60-43) with 17:08 to go in the game.
  • IU Northwest did not go away and fought back to score 12 in a row capped off by buckets by Larry Lynch and Jared Johnson to make it 60-55 IUE. 
  • The Red Wolves made another run as they scored 11 in a row to grab another 16-point lead with 11:11 remaining. 
  • Johnson ended that run with a bucket of his own.  
  • Moments later, IUE grabbed their biggest lead of the night (77-57) with 10:03 to play. 
  • The RedHawks tried to fight back into the game after a basket by Martrellian Gibson but the Red Wolves were too much to handle.
  • However with IU East leading 92-74 with 4:22 left, IU Northwest scored the last nine points of the contest as Johnson, Jason Peace and Gibson all had buckets.

FINAL SCORE (IU East 46-46-92, IU Northwest 39-44-83)

IU Northwest Men's Basketball returns to action Tuesday, November 24 as the RedHawks travel to Joliet, Illinois to take on University of Saint Francis starting at 7 p.m. CT.
