Four Starters Reach Double Figures As Men's Basketball Defeats Trinity Christian Thursday

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest Men's Basketball came from behind in huge fashion Thursday as the RedHawks defeated Trinity Christian at their place, 95-81, Thursday.

The RedHawks (2-2) defeated The Trolls (1-2), 95-81, at the DeVos Gym, Thursday.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF (Trinity Christian 48; IU Northwest 44)

  •  Both teams traded early buckets to make it 4-4.
  •  Trinity Christian scored the next seven points to make it 11-4 with 15:48 to go.
  •  Jared Johnson ended the run with a dunk to try to get some momentum.
  •  TCC pulled ahead 23-12 with 11:23 to play in the first half. 
  •  Marshaud Watkins hit a three-pointer and a jumper to make it a six-point game (23-17) trying to get IUN back in the game.
  •  The Trolls had the answer once again with a run, this time with a 12-2 spurt the next six minutes to go up 35-19.
  •  Larry Lynch hit a three-pointer to make it a 12-point game again.
  •  After that three-pointer it was all Johnson from there.
  •  Johnson hit back-to-back threes and made a layup to cut it to seven.
  • A few minutes later, Johnson hit consecutive threes again to close out the half and it was 48-44 Trinity at the break.

SECOND HALF (IUN 95; Trinity Christian 81)

  •  Johnson scored the first five points of the second half for both sides and gave the RedHawks a 49-48 lead their first lead since leading 2-0 to start the game.
  •  Both teams would trade buckets which made it 58-58 with just under 16 minutes left.
  •  Martrellian Gibson scored the next 13 IU Northwest points which made it 64-58 RedHawks with 13:36 to play.
  • Trinity tried to crawl back into the game but Jason Peace was able to have the answer after making a layup.  
  • Alex Constandars and Watkins made back-to-back layups to make it 83-66 with 4:44 remaining in the game.
  •  Once again it was Johnson for the RedHawks after giving IU Northwest their biggest lead of the night which was 18 with back-to-back baskets with 2:15 to go.
  •  IU Northwest held on to win the game 95-81.
