Women's Soccer Battles in First Ever Regular Season Match Friday

Box Score

CROWN POINT, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest Women's Soccer team was unable to come up with the victory on Friday as the RedHawks had their first ever game in program history against St. Francis (Ill.).

The Fighting Saints (1-0) defeated the RedHawks (0-1), 3-0, at the Crown Point Sportsplex, Friday.

St. Francis (Ill.) had the first two shots of the match in the first 13 minutes and Hayley Maze was able to pick up a save. Sydney Dragos recorded a shot on goal in the 17th minute.

In the 25th minute, Maze picked up a pair of huge saves. USF was able to capitalize off a corner kicker by Isabel Cerda into Kelli Pietrowski at the 29th minute to put the Saints up 1-0.

That score stood at the break as USF led 1-0.

The Fighting Saints went on the attack early in the second half as USF had back-to-back shots on goal but Maze was there for the save. MacKenzie Rainwater tried to tie it up for the RedHawks as she had back-to-back shots on goal in the 55th and 56th minute but USF's goalie picked up the saves.

USF doubled their lead in the 72nd minute. The Fighting Saints extended it to 3-0 moments later after a goal by Olivia De La Rosa and that score would stand.

IU Northwest Women's Soccer will be back Saturday, February 13 as the RedHawks travel to Madonna University to take on the Crusaders at 12 p.m. CT.
