Box Score Gary, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team used stellar offense and defense all game as the RedHawks rolled to a 76-54 victory against Cardinal Stritch at the Savannah Center Saturday.
Stritch opened the game with a 10-5 advantage. IUN then went on a 10-2 run after baskets by Rashad Richardson (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jeff) and Chris Robinson (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) then a three by Richardson which gave the RedHawks a 16-12 lead at the 12:42 mark.
Marshaud Watkins (Oak Forest, Ill.) gave IUN their biggest lead of the first half after hit three trifectas in a row to make it 27-14 with 6:56 left. Stritch did not give in as the Wolves went on a 10-2 run of their own to make it 29-24 with 3:16 left in the half.
IUN ended the half on a 6-2 spurt after jumpers by Tremon Weston (St. Louis, Mo.), Richardson and Watkins. The RedHawks led 39-30 at the half.
The RedHawks opened the second half with the scoring after a basket by Gibson and an and-one from Richardson to make it 44-30. IUN pulled away after that and never looked back.
Back-to-back three pointers by Gibson and Watkins made it 56-36 with 15:11 left in the game. Gibson gave IUN a 25-point lead of the game after a jumper made it 65-40 with 9:30 left.
Louis Williams (East Chicago, Ind./East Chicago Central) gave the RedHawks their biggest lead of the game after the freshman nailed a three-pointer a jumpshot to make it 76-50 with 1:48 in the game.
Stritch closed out the game with back-to-back baskets. IUN won the game 76-54.
Watkins and Richardson led the offense with 17 points a piece. Gibson recorded 14 points to reach double figures in the victory.
IUN (3-2, 2-1 CCAC) returns to action Thursday, November 21 as the RedHawks host Andrews University starting at 7 p.m. CT.
